Edward L’Esperance

More Than Two Decades of Engineering Experience

I am a Mechanical Engineer with more than two decades of experience in testing, product development, commissioning, and field service. Throughout my career, I have worked across manufacturing, automotive, and hydrogen technologies in North America and Europe, helping customers bring complex industrial systems into safe and reliable operation.

Building the Foundation

I studied Mechanical Engineering at Lawrence Technological University in Southfield, Michigan. During my studies, I worked full-time supporting the design and manufacturing of equipment used in steel mill applications, gaining early experience with industrial machinery and heavy-duty mechanical systems.

After graduating, I joined Detroit Diesel as a Component Engineer, working on electro-mechanical valve systems. I later moved into durability testing, where I was responsible for planning and executing complete engine validation programs, analyzing test results, and translating findings into engineering improvements.

International Experience

In 2014, I moved to Stuttgart, Germany as an expatriate engineer. Working in an international environment, I supported complete engine functional testing and collaborated directly with global engineering teams. During this time, I became fluent in German and conducted technical meetings, documentation, and reporting entirely in German.

After Germany, I continued my engineering career in Belgium, working in automotive testing and development. I supported product validation by developing reliable test methods for new components and later worked directly with customers to develop application-specific solutions.

Commissioning Hydrogen Systems

In 2022, I transitioned into hydrogen systems commissioning, supporting the installation, start-up, troubleshooting, and operation of large-scale electrolyzer projects. This work brought together many aspects of my engineering background: mechanical systems, electrical equipment, instrumentation, testing, problem solving, and coordination across international project teams.

Today

Today, Hope Engineering Services builds on this experience by providing practical engineering support for industrial projects, with a focus on project support, installation and commissioning, and field service.
